In recognizing the graduating Class of 2024, Baccalaureate Service was held at the Marlin Missionary First Baptist Church, Rev. Vincent Hartsfield, Pastor, on Sunday, June 9.

An estimated 25 of the graduating class participated in the event. The Baccalaureate ceremony is usually held a few days prior to graduation. It offers a smaller, more intimate opportunity for the graduating class and their families to pause, reflect on this rite of passage, and celebrate the graduates’ achievements and perseverance.

Ortega McDavid, MISD High School Dean of Students, served as Program Coordinator. On behalf of the class of 2024, Shayria Womack welcomed the parents, friends, and teachers present to share the non-denominational memorable occasion. Musical selections were presented by Jacorian Johnson and Brianna McCraw.

The keynote speaker was Marlin native Cassius Johnson, MHS Class of ‘99. Coach Johnson is the Defensive Coordinator at Dallas Roosevelt.  He encouraged the class to embrace that failure is an option and can be used as a learning tool to re-assess things that didn’t go as planned. Coach Johnson reiterated “Students should keep faith in God and find someone trustworthy and good listener and no matter what, not to give up.”

Ms. McDavid thanked everyone for attending. The event closed with a prayer of gratefulness and thanksgiving by De’Andrea Petty, Esq.  Picture sessions and refreshments followed.

Graduation ceremonies are set for June 20.
