Twenty-five Rotarians enrolled and attended the Rotary Leadership Institute in Austin on June 8, 2024. Amongst the twenty-five participants were Rhonda Milton, Beth Mullins, and Letitia Estep of the Rotary Club of Marlin. The Rotary Leadership Institute is a grassroots, multi-district leadership development program whose mission is to strengthen Rotary clubs through quality leadership education.

At the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI), six RLI Facilitators plus Rotary District 5870 Governor Bob Crouch, former District Governors, and Assistant District Governors led and wove the discussions that defined the making of a leader, a Rotarian leader. Equipped also with a workbook, participants explored the characteristics of leadership, motivational techniques, and leadership styles.

To a Rotarian, ethics and vocational service are fundamental.  A Rotarian is ethical, recognizes and promotes ethics in others, and seeks opportunities to serve through individual vocation. One can see that which distinguishes a Rotarian.

“I am ‘doing good’ in my local community and around the world,” explains a Rotarian. Learning about and working with the basic goals and programs of the Rotary Foundation dispatches Rotarians to be a force for good in the world!

“No challenge is too big for us.” (Rotary.org) For more than a century, Rotary has bridged cultures and connected continents. The 1.4 million men and women of Rotary champion peace, fight illiteracy and poverty, help people get access to clean water and sanitation, and fight disease. Rotary’s newest cause is to protect our planet and its resources.

The Rotary Learning Institute focused on a fourth key. Rotarians make their club and Rotary stronger by active participation. Engaged club members effectively serve, have fun, and make friends. They have been asked to serve. “This is why I joined Rotary!” exclaimed Beth Mullins.

Rotarians are a vital part of a worldwide service organization of business, professional and community leaders meeting needs in communities. Each Rotarian can build, run and promote service.

“We all think we choose what path we take in life, who we socialize and mix with, what views we hold. But those decisions are actually shaped by networks of people.”  (David Brooks)

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster.  The Development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service. Rotarians have the opportunity to create relationships with many business, professional, and community leaders.

High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignification of a Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society. Being a Rotarian authenticates the person and his/her business or profession.

The application of the ideal of service is essential in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life. Rotarians nurture this personal characteristic; the cornerstone of building and sustaining relationships.

The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. Rotarians become better world citizens and often build lasting international relationships.

Solving some of the world’s most complex and pressing problems takes real commitment and vision. Rotary members believe that they share a responsibility to take action to improve our communities. Join Rotary, so that we can make an even bigger impact – together.

The Rotary Club of Marlin meets every Wednesday at noon at The Chicken Place in Marlin.
