Giant locomotive, Big Boy, to stop in De Soto on Sept. 12
The world’s largest operating steam locomotive is expected to make a stop in De Soto on Thursday, Sept. 12. Union Pacific Railroad announced on Monday that its famed Big Boy No. 4014 locomotive will stop in more than three dozen communities during its fall tour across 10 states. The tour also will include four public display days in Houston, Fort Worth and the Chicago area.

High Ridge man injured in Fenton-area crash
A High Ridge man was injured in a crash on Tuesday, Aug. 13, on Hwy. 30 at Delores Drive in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported. At 9:13 p.m., Jayden Odle, 29, of Hillsboro was in a westbound 2015 Ford Taurus attempting to merge onto the highway from the left turn lane when he struck the rear of a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro driven west by John E. (KFVS) - Happy Friday! This afternoon is another hot and humid one...expect feels like temperatures in the triple digits. Isolated storm chances linger today and tomorrow. A cold front will slowly move through by tomorrow which will help cool us down for the second half of the weekend. There is a chance for a few isolated severe storms on Saturday afternoon/evening. Gusty winds and heavy rainfall remain the biggest threat. Most of the Heartland is looking dry through for the next couple of days. Highs this weekend will be in the mid-90s Saturday and upper 80s Sunday with evenings dropping to the 60s.
Annual Good Ol’ Truck & Tractor Pull and Carnival to include semis for first time
The ninth annual Good Ol’ Truck & Tractor Pull and Carnival is set for Friday and Saturday, Aug. 23-24, at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 10349 Business 21, in Hillsboro. This year’s truck and tractor pull will introduce a new category for semi trucks, said event chairman Mike Daugherty, president of the Hillsboro Community Civic Club, which sponsors the event.
