MARQUETTE, Mich. (WJMN) — The City of Marquette Parks and Recreation Department is seeking public input regarding updates to its five-year master plan from 2019.

The first of two interactive open houses took place Wednesday night at the Lakeview Arena. On July 18, the a second open house and a presentation on the plan is also set to take place from 5-7 p.m.

“The master plan really captures where we are now as a park system and where we would like to be in the next five years,” says Dick Horton, Consultant for the Parks and Recreation master plan, who will give a presentation on the plan at the second open house July 18.

The plan considers all aspects of Marquette’s parks and recreational facilities, from maintenance and funding to trends happening in other parts of the nation that may be applicable to Marquette.

Updates to the master plan are needed every five years for the Parks and Recreation Department to apply for grants.

At tonight and tomorrow’s open house, the public can weigh in on the conditions at Presque Isle Park, the city’s athletic fields and specific projects they would like to see happen in the next five years.

For those unable to attend the open house Thursday night from 5-7 p.m. at the Lakeview Arena, comments regarding the City of Marquette’s parks, trails, recreational programs and facilities can be directed to the Parks and Recreations Department at any time.

Comments specific to the master plan updates, though, should be sent by email to parks@marquettemi.gov and ideally received before the end of August.
