L’ANSE, MARQUETTE, SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (WJMN) – You can run for a cause next week at the Great Lakes Recovery Centers’ 17th Annual Run for Recovery.

There will be three events that will take place simultaneously across the Upper Peninsula, including L’Anse, Marquette, and Sault Ste. Marie.

“This is basically a community event. That’s what we’re trying to push for support of recovery. It’s not just support for GLRC, but also just recovery efforts throughout the U.P. That’s the main reason to come out and support,” said GLRC’s Marketing Coordinator Kyle Wiersma. “We also are trying to make it as fun as we can and celebrate recovery, not just like I know recovery efforts are deep and can get really emotional and things like that, but we want to celebrate those who have gone through recovery and are on the other side and just celebrate.”

All proceeds from this year’s event will benefit GLRC’s Compassionate Care Fund, which provides individuals access to services even if they are unable to pay for them.

According to GLRC, “the Compassionate Card Fund is beneficial for clients who may be uninsured, under insured, or not eligible for governmental or community funding. Individuals receiving assistance from the Compassionate Care Fund may be from anywhere in the Upper Peninsula. Although most clients who utilize the Compassionate Care Fund are receiving residential treatment, the fund may also be used for other services such as mental health or substance use outpatient therapy, group sessions, or recovery housing.”

The 17th Annual Run for Recovery will commence at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31 at the three locations. The L’Anse 5k walk will start at the waterfront park in downtown L’Anse, the Sault Ste. Marie 5K run and walk will start at Men’s New Hope House, and the Marquette 10k run, 5k run, and 5k walk will start at Lakeview Arena.

You can register online now at runsignup.com . You can also register on the day of the event in-person from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. All registrants will receive a run t-shirt to be picked up on the day of the event. Those who register before July 31 will also receive a limited GLRC 40th anniversary edition water bottle.
