Southport voters overwhelming approved two amendments to the land use ordinance during a July 24 special town meeting. Just over 60 voters approved the two amendments. One regards state LD 2003, which requires municipalities to take action in creating more affordable housing. CARIBOU, Maine — After more than a year, Caribou has a new code enforcement officer who wants to explore ways that the city can combat its most blighted properties. In May 2023, former code enforcement officer Ken Murchison retired, leaving the city without a full-time person to investigate complaints and inspect nuisance or potentially dangerous properties. Caribou EMS will use $200,000 state grant for staff training, equipment upgrades
CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou Fire & Ambulance has received a major state grant to help fund staff training and modernize the department’s emergency equipment. In 2023, the Maine Legislature enacted the Maine Emergency Medical Services Stabilization and Sustainability Fund, a $31 million grant program to support EMS departments experiencing staff shortages and other challenges in the aftermath of the COVID pandemic. Grants ranging from $15,000 to $200,000 are available.
