A Lively July for 4H-ers & Farmer’s Market
As part of our summer programming, the Alaska Way of Life 4-H Project partnered with Sitka Native Education Program (SNEP) to provide thirty youth with five days of harvesting and processing as part of Harvest Camp. Intertwining Lingít values and practices with hands-on activities, we met 10am to 4pm each day to learn, laugh, play, harvest, and process.

We have an update on our wildfires so far this year from the Alaska Division of Forestry & Fire Protection. So far, Alaska has seen more than 350 fires in 2024 with more than 630,000 acres burned statewide. Firefighters are still battling three fires including the Sinnott, Te'eedriinjik, and Riley Fires.
Anchorage to Clear 40th & Fairbanks Homeless Camp Amid Crime Crackdown
The homeless camp on 40th and Fairbanks Street in Anchorage is being cleared out. Folks were given a 72-hour notice to clear the area because of safety concerns. The notice comes after the recent crime crackdown by Anchorage police. Authorities report there were more than 90 arrests last week including many at the homeless camp.

Municipality plans to post abatement notices at Midtown Anchorage encampment Tuesday
In an email to Anchorage Assembly members Monday morning, municipal officials said that 72-hour abatement notices are to be posted at the Fairbanks Street encampment sometime on Tuesday.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Skies cleared and temperatures went up around southcentral, as an area of high pressure moved over the region. Meantime, a storm system will move into northwest and northern Alaska, with rain and cool temperatures. Parts of the Brooks Range could see heavy rain, bringing up water levels on rivers and streams into the weekend. We’re watching this system because it drops south over the next several days, bringing rain showers to the interior and some areas of southcentral.

Alaska's governor was on hand at the Tanana Valley State Fair in Fairbanks. Governor Mike Dunleavy shared photos of a bill signing he did at the fairgrounds in Fairbanks. He actually signed four bills into law, which he says will address and help improve health care, timber sales, military affairs, and motor vehicles.
