Ship-Free Saturday FAQ Now Available Online
A selection of Frequently Asked Questions regarding the ship-free Saturday ballot initiative is now available online at juneau.org/tourism. Juneau residents will vote on an initiative to limit cruise ships on Saturdays and the 4th of July. This FAQ seeks to answer some common questions about CBJ’s tourism efforts and the potential outcomes if the initiative is passed. Topics include:

One unpleasant aspect of winter living in the northern Lynn Canal is: transportation. Sometimes the ferry isn’t running. As we try to catch our flight in Juneau, we watch the sky expectantly, hoping the cloud cover will lift and allow small planes to get us out of town. This can last for days.

Photos: Golden Days in Fairbanks
The annual Golden Days parade, street fair and duck race along the Chena River kicked off in Fairbanks on July 20, 2024. More than 8,000 rubber ducks are dropped into the Chena River for the annual duck race from the Wendell Street Bridge to race down to the Cushman Street Bridge. Since 1952, Golden Days have celebrated the founding of Fairbanks with mostly Gold Rush-related activities. These activities include the Old Tyme Games, such as pie eating and balloon toss.

Photos: Anchorage heats up for summer festivities on Fourth Avenue
This series of photographs was captured with a disposable camera on June 22 in downtown Anchorage, Alaska. It was a sunny 77 degrees Fahrenheit as people filled the streets for various activities. Many patrons visited hot dog vendors and shops around Fourth Avenue. Others attended the Downtown Summer Solstice Celebration. The celebration has drawn thousands of attendees in past years, according to the Anchorage Downtown Partnership.

Famous brown bear ‘Chunk’ given the slip during courtship attempt
A bear-cam in Alaska’s Katmai National Park on Monday captured an amusing scene involving a brown bear named Chunk putting the moves on a female bear.
