STORM WATER, TAXIWAY IMPROVEMENTS APPROVED BY MARSHALL CITY COUNCIL

Two major infrastructure measures received the approval of Marshall’s city council Tuesday night.

After receiving presentations from HDR about the proposed reconstruction of the parallel taxiway at the municipal airport and Engineering Surveys and Surveys about ways to improve storm water runoff along homes on Cotton Street and behind Southside Assembly of God, the council voted to move forward with both contracts. Mayor Vince Lutterbie says the taxiway project is skimmed down from what went out to bid.

Emery Sapp and Sons submitted the initial bid of $4.8 million, which went down to about $3.75 million after removing the lights.

As for storm water, Lutterbie says several areas of the city still need addressed.

Council members also received a presentation on a proposed truck route for trucks to access the River Valley Ag Exchange elevators. The route would have trucks exit Odell onto Slater, then turn onto Jefferson before reaching Haynie, where trucks would then make a loop using Hammer, Ohio and Lafayette.
