Marshall Village President Chris Campbell and the village board presented student Grayson Armstrong with a proclamation honoring his achievement of Eagle Scout on Tuesday, March 12.

Campbell took time to thank Armstrong for his commitment to community service for the Marshall community. In 2023, Armstrong ran a donation drive for used instruments and other band equipment needed by the Marshall Public Schools’ music program for his Eagle Scout project.

At the time, he said that the idea came to him after hearing word that some students were close to quitting the school band due to costs of renting or buying equipment.

Armstrong took some time to reflect on the achievement and his time as a Boy Scout. He said that some of his favorite aspects of the journey included having the opportunity to meet great people in his troop, attending summer camps and learning different skills through merit badges.

Armstrong looked back in time to single out his favorite badge over the years.

“The most impactful or meaningful one for me is coin collecting, just because I was pretty young when I got it. I went for it when I was 13; it was one of the first things I’d done on my own volition,” he said.

When asked about what being an Boy Scout and working towards Eagle Scout had taught him, Armstrong said:

“Throughout my whole time in scouts and especially working towards Eagle Scout, it’s taught me a lot about leadership. I was able to serve as the senior patrol leader for a few years. Working on the Eagle Scout process, I learned how to do things like compose an email, organize other people and just how to get things done.”
