Marshfield earns walk-off win over Wausau Legion baseball

MARSHFIELD – Owen Griesbach singled home Emmitt Konieczny with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning, give the Marshfield Post 54 Legion baseball team to a walk-off 5-4 win over Wausau Post 10 on Thursday night at Jack Hackman Field.

Four errors in the first three innings by Marshfield led to four runs for Wausau.

Caden Werth and Jackson Albee had RBI singles in the opening inning, and after Marshfield scored once in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Adam Gilbertson, Wausau added two more in the third. Luke Smogoleski had a single that was then misplayed and allowed Oliver Turjaski to score. Werth followed with another run-scoring single to put the Bulldogs up 4-1.

Marshfield tied in the fourth. Griesbach was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch. Blake Raab followed with a single past the shortstop that scored Aden Cherney and Jakob Sadowska to knot the score at 4-4.

The score held until the seventh as Marshfield pitchers Cain Toufar (1 1/3 innings) and Nathan Richardson (1 2/3 inn.) shutout Wausau after the third.

Konieczny singled with one out in the seventh, Gilbertson walked and Griesbach smacked a liner to left to plate Konieczny with the winning run.

Both teams are now 11-13 this season.

Marshfield will compete at the Eau Claire Tournament this weekend, taking on Green Bay Southwest at 5 p.m. on Friday, while Wausau will travel to the Gopher Classic in Minnesota for games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
