OBITUARY: James G. Laton

James G. Laton, 82, of Marston, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2024 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

He was born Oct. 31, 1941, in Jackson Springs, son of the late James Luther Laton and Zula Jane Covington Laton.

James served in the United States Army and was proud of his military service. He was a member of Marks Creek Presbyterian Church, Hamlet.

James enjoyed being outdoors, especially gardening and fishing. He was a well-versed gentleman and was known to be comical. He especially loved joking around with his great-grandchildren. James loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and all of his family. He will be dearly missed.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wayne Laton and Luther Laton.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 61 years, Lenora Dick Laton of the home; children, Angela Laton Butler (Lee) of Hoffman and James Timothy Laton of Marston; grandchildren, Brandon Butler (LeAnne), Kristen Adelmann (Jake) and Brittany Roberts (Devin); great-grandchildren, Maddy, Owen, Dexter, Darren, Lizzie, Cameron, Lexi, Jessica and Abigail; stepbrother, James Gainey of Apex; nieces, Janet Arnold and Diana Sawyer; and nephew, Darryl Laton.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Marks Creek Presbyterian Church, Hamlet, with the Rev. Ken Goins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
