Almost 10 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products are being recalled due to possible listeria contamination, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

BrucePac of Durant, OK, a ready-made meat producer, voluntarily recalled 9,986,245 pounds of their read-to-eat meat and poultry products produced from June 19 to October 8. The full list of products hasn't been released yet, but the recalled products have the establishment numbers "51205" or "P-51205" printed inside or under the USDA mark of inspection.

The problem was discovered by FSIS during a routine product testing of ready-to-eat poultry products produced by BrucePac. The test confirmed that those products were positive for listeria.

The meat and poultry products affected by the recall were shipped to distributors nationwide. These distributors sent the meat to restaurants and businesses, meaning they are likely still in fridges or freezers and available on shelves in these establishments, FSIS states.

While there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consuming the affected products, listeria can cause a listeriosis infection. Symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, diarrhea, and other gastrointestinal issues.

If you have the recalled products in your possession, FSIS advises you to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. Retailers who have the products in stock are told to not sell them and to dispose of them immediately.
