A state court judge's ruling Monday keeps an abortion-rights question on the November ballot in South Dakota.Judge John Pekas dismissed a lawsuit filed by an anti-abortion group, Life Defense Fund, that sought to have the question removed even though supporters turned in more than enough valid signatures to put it on the ballot."They have thrown everything they could dream up to stop the people of South Dakota from voting on this matter," Adam Weiland, co-founder of Dakotans for Health, said in a statement after the ruling. ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. — Wall’s Piper Cordes highlighted South Dakota’s performers at Wednesday’s National High School Finals Rodeo. Cordes ran a 20.494 seconds in Wednesday’s evening pole bending performance, the third fastest time of the night. Cordes is currently No. 3 the second go-round standings for the pole bending.

RAPID CITY, S.D. - Hills Alive is this weekend, starting at noon on Saturday, July 20 and then picking up again at noon on Sunday, July 21. The popular Christian music festival, organized this year by LifeLight, has been a mainstay of local summer entertainment in the Black Hills for nearly 40 years. After a disappointing announcement last year that radio station KSLT would no longer organize the event, LifeLight Ministries stepped in to take over and continue the event.

The Black Hills National Forest is teaming up with the National Park Service to host a Moon Walk on Saturday, July 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Jewel Cave National Monument. Jewel Cave National Monument is home to some of the darkest skies in the Black Hills. Although a day-use site with incredible cave tours and engaging interpretive programs, the Monument also provides some evening “scenery” that is not often witnessed by visitors.

Rapid City firefighters extinguish blaze, rescue two cats from fourth floor fire
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - A small fire occurred in a fourth floor unit at Tallgrass Apartments Wednesday afternoon. Rapid City Fire Department crews arrived quickly and positioned Fire Engine 1’s ladder next to the apartment’s balcony, about 40 feet above the ground. Upon arrival, the firefighters extinguished the isolated blaze and rescued two cats inside the apartment, who were reportedly frightened but unharmed.
