One fatality has been confirmed after a small plane crashed in the 900 block of Van Cleave Road in Martin, Tennessee.

The City of Martin Fire/EMS responded to the crash scene at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday morning where they found a small, single-engine aircraft about 50 yards off the roadway in a wooded area.

On Tuesday afternoon, Everett-Stewart Regional Airport in neighboring Union City shared a social media post identifying the victim as one of their own, Scott Rainey.

The City of Martin shared Wednesday afternoon that the plane, of Rainey Aerial Agricultural Service, is currently being removed from the wooded area.

ESRA Board Chairman Wayne McCreight says Rainey served on the board, its Personnel Committee, and was the Chairman of the Agriculture Committee.

"Words can be of little consolation at this time of grief and heartache, but we offer our deepest and heartfelt sympathy to Judy, Brycen, and Garett," McCreight wrote.

By 3:45 p.m. the scene of the crash had been cleared.

Van Cleave Road is open again but will be reduced to one lane while the Weakley County Sheriff's Department remains overnight at the scene.

The Weakley County Sheriff's Department, EMA, and Rescue Squad are assisting Martin Fire/EMS in the efforts.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were notified and dispatched to the scene of the accident. An investigation is currently underway and the FAA will return to the scene in the morning.

    This is a developing story.
