The Daytona Coupe is famous for its 1964 victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans GT Class, where it outperformed Ferrari. Built for the 1964-65 racing season using 289 Shelby Cobra roadster chassis, the original six factory racers were America's answer to Ferrari’s 250 GTO. They won the GT class at Sebring and placed 4th overall at Le Mans in their debut year. Their success was so intimidating that Ferrari officials got the final round in Monza, Italy canceled to avoid losing the championship. Despite Ferrari’s efforts, the Daytona Coupes went on to win the FIA World Manufacturer’s GT title in 1965.

    Carroll Shelby’s Personal Coupe

This 2008 Daytona Coupe, chassis CSX9013, was built for Carroll Shelby with a unique paddle-shifted automatic transmission, as per his request. Painted in Guardsman Blue with White Stripes and featuring the number 98, it pays homage to Shelby's own CSX2300. Under the hood, it boasts a Shelby-prepared Roush 427SR V8 engine, delivering 480 horsepower and 515 lb-ft of torque, paired with an Art Carr 2004R 4-speed paddle-shifted automatic transmission.

The coupe's body is made of vinylester and glass composite, and it rides on 18” cast alloy wheels with knock-offs. The interior is just as impressive, with black leather and Alcantara, Stewart Warner electronic gauges, and a custom TFE air conditioning system. It also features power-assisted rack and pinion steering, fully independent front and rear suspension, Bilstein coil-over progressive shocks with H&R springs, and four-wheel vented disc brakes.
