MARTINSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An animal control officer was forced to shoot a pit bull after it attacked and killed a cat and then began attacking another dog.

Upon arrival, officers found a white pit bull attacking another dog near the residence’s front porch.

Despite verbal warnings, the pit bull persisted in its attack.

An officer discharged one round in an attempt to deter the pit bull, allowing the other dog to retreat to safety with its owner.

The pit bull then pursued the owner and the dog, forcing the owner to escape over a fence.

The pit bull resumed attacking the dog, prompting a second discharge from an officer’s 9mm duty weapon, which resulted in the pit bull’s death.

According to the caller, he initially heard a commotion behind his house and upon investigating, witnessed the pit bull attacking a cat.

Subsequently, the dog redirected its aggression towards the caller’s dog. A deceased cat was discovered behind the residence.

The pit bull was found without identification, such as a collar or microchip, and the owner remains unidentified.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing under the supervision of the BCSD.
