Former Wheeling Mayor and West Virginia Senate Candidate Glenn Elliott announced that in the wake of the recent violence that occurred at former President Trump’s appearance, he is canceling his public town hall that was scheduled for July 15 in Martinsburg.

Elliott took to Facebook and posted, “Like so many of you, I am at a loss to comprehend the senseless, nauseating violence that took place in Butler, PA. These are unprecedented times, and the safety and comfort of my fellow West Virginians is of the utmost importance. Because of this, the campaign has made the difficult decision to cancel Monday’s town hall. We hope to reschedule this event later in the campaign, and will share those details as soon as possible.”

According to Elliott, his campaign is in the middle of a summer-long tour, meeting with voters in all 55 counties and hosting a series of public town halls.

Elliott went on to say, “For the time being, we are going to avoid gathering with folks in large crowds and suspend our door-knocking for this leg of the campaign tour. We’re going to meet with those that feel comfortable meeting with us, and we will continue to update the public on our social channels as plans evolve.”

Elliott’s next scheduled town hall is for July 26, in Princeton, but he has not released whether he will be at the event.
