MARTINSVILLE, Va. ( WFXR ) – Summer is in full swing, but the next school year is around the corner and it’s never too early to start picking up the supplies your child needs for success.

If you or someone you know needs help getting back-to-school supplies, the organization Back2School is giving away socks, shoes, and a backpack filled with school supplies for free during organized events and at their locations. Also, many of these locations provide necessities to children including free haircuts and a clothing closet with great apparel for heading back into the classroom.

The nonprofit organization helps children and families, in grades K-12 in need. For the last 18 years, Back2School has provided help to over 38,000 kids at their locations and during scheduled events.

Interested families must register online or in person on Saturday, July 13th from 9-Noon and Tuesday, July 23 rd 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Back2School says registering for an event is important so kids participating can have their feet measured.

Families can also pre-register online as well before the event.

The organization says it relies on donations to provide supplies to children, with the kits costing an average of $22 per child.
