Commissioners honor Volunteer track team's state championship success
The Hawkins County Commission honored the Volunteer High School boys and girls track teams Monday for their state championship meet successes, including state titles and all-state honors, this past spring. Commissioner John Gibson introduced the teams during Monday’s County Commission meeting, noting that the VHS teams had many accomplishments at the 2024 Class AA state championship. Grand jury to get double murder, attempted murder case
The case of a July 10 shooting at a Perry County party that left two dead and one injured will be heard by a Perry County grand jury. Following a preliminary hearing July 23 in Perry District Court, District Judge Cody Goehring ruled that there was enough evidence against Treston Combs, 20, of Hardburly Road, Bulan, and Emmaleigh Collins, 19, of Kenmont Road, Jeff, for their case to be considered for possible indictment by a grand jury.
University of Kentucky kiosk helps residents properly retire American flags
HAZARD, Ky. (WKRC) - A kiosk at the University of Kentucky allows people to retire American flags. According to WDKY-TV, the University of Kentucky's Center of Excellence in Rural Health (UK CERH) in Hazard unveiled a tool to properly retire an American flag in early July. Per the outlet, the university's new kiosk was the idea of veterans who work at the center and felt it was needed in the community.
