On Monday at approximately 5:46 a.m., Maryland State Police troopers responded to Route 5 in the area of Lakewood Place in Waldorf for a report of a person lying in the median of the roadway.

The male subject was pronounced deceased on the scene and car parts were located near the person, according to a release from the La Plata barrack of the Maryland State Police.

The Maryland State Police CRASH Team responded to assume the investigation.

A preliminary investigation conducted by troopers from the La Plata barrack and the CRASH Team indicated a Ford of an unknown year and model was traveling in lane number one of northbound Route 5, the release said.

At the same time, a pedestrian, identified as Terry Anthony Dorch, 54, of Waldorf, was walking in the same lane.

The vehicle struck Dorch sometime during the overnight hours and did not remain on the scene, the release said.

A left side mirror from the striking vehicle was located on the scene. The mirror is commonly available for Ford Superduty, Expedition and Excursion vehicles.

Anyone who may have witnessed this crash or has information on the striking vehicle is asked to contact Sergeant J. Zimmerman of the Maryland State Police at 301-392-1200 or email a statement to justin.zimmerman@maryland.gov.

    The investigation is continuing.
