Waldorf fire displaces family
On April 23 around 5:48 p.m., a fire at 2129 Briarwood Drive in Waldorf was discovered by a passerby, who noticed the fire on the back side of the house, according to the state fire marshal’s office. The homeowners were not at home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries as a result of the fire. Structural losses were valued at $50,000 and the content losses at $2,000. The homeowners were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

House fire investigated
On April 23 around 2:08 p.m., a fire at 11264 Flagstaff Place in Waldorf was discovered by a neighbor, who alerted the occupants of the home. There were no injures as a result of the fire. Structural damage losses were valued at $15,000. The occupants were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Welcoming a new pastor
Sadiqq Abdullah was recently named the new senior pastor at South Potomac Church in White Plains. Since joining the church in 2009, he has served in different capacities and joined the pastoral staff in 2016. He was selected by the South Potomac Church Board of Elders, which included seven people, in conjunction with a pastoral search committee. Taylor Hill, a senior, keeps the band on beat as they practice their pieces before taking the stage. The St. Charles High School Performing Arts Program competed in the 2024 Music in the Parks event where they took home four 1st place trophies and two 2nd place trophies. Police locate missing La Plata teenager
Multiple police agencies mobilized Tuesday to find a missing teenager in Charles County. La Plata’s Police Department sent out a critical missing person alert the morning of April 23, saying that 18-year-old Gernard McCormick, a La Plata High School student, was missing. General Smallwood Middle School may soon be no more. The Charles County Board of Education reviewed the process to change the name of the school and the price tag associated with it at their April 16 meeting because concerns had been raised over Gen.
