Old Line Spirits announced on April 11 the release of the brand's inaugural rye whiskey, which is meant to celebrate Maryland's "rich rye whiskey heritage," according to the brand. The rye whiskey clocks in at 102 proof and was made from the same grains from local brewery, Monument City Brewing Co.'s 51 Rye IPA.
"This whiskey is a step in a new direction for Old Line," Old Line Spirits co-founder Mark McLaughlin said in a news release. "Working with Monument City Brewing Co. allowed us to blend tradition with creativity, resulting in a whiskey that is both unique and respectful of Maryland's rye heritage. Our focus is still on American Single Malts but expect to see this wonderful rye whiskey again in the future!"
The whiskey hosts a suggested retail price of $39.99 and will be locally available in Maryland. Old Line claims those not local to the state can purchase it at additional e-commerce shops in 40 states.
"Bringing Monument City's 51 Rye grains into our whiskey world has been an exciting project," Old Line Spirits co-founder Arch Watkins said. "The result is a high malt rye that truly encapsulates what Old Line is all about: boldness, quality and a deep appreciation for Maryland's distilling history. I can't wait for everyone to taste the whiskey."
In February , the brand introduced a Pedro Ximénez-finished American Single Malt. The Maryland-based brand was founded by two Navy pilots, who met while flying their EA-6B Prowlers. Though American Single Malts are the brand's calling card, the choice to venture into the rye whiskey category marks a bold departure for the brand. Old Line claims the whiskey possesses aromas of "cinnamon, warm sugar cookies, faint ripe plum, dark chocolate and light, dry tobacco." [botmc-promo]
