The Maryland Society of Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) installed J.D. Urbach of Edgemere as the 101st Maryland State President at their 136th annual meeting held April 27 in Davidsonville.

Urbach joined the society in 2013 in honor of an 8th-great grandfather, Joseph Wallen (1734-1792) who served in the Virginia militia during the revolution and was later a longhunter alongside Daniel Boone. Urbach previously served as Maryland Vice President (2022-2024) and as Chapter President of the Colonel Nicholas Ruxton Moore Chapter serving Baltimore County from 2020-2022.

The SAR is a patriotic, historical, and educational nonprofit organization whose goals are “to unite and promote fellowship among the descendants of those who sacrificed to achieve the independence of the American people, to inspire them and the community-at-large with a more profound reverence for the principles of the government founded by our forefathers; to foster true patriotism; to maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom.”

The Maryland Society SAR was organized in 1889 by 36 charter members who met in the Old Senate Chamber of the State House in Annapolis.
