Maryland Supreme Court Allows Marilyn Mosby To Retain Law License During Appeals

Maryland’s highest court , the Supreme Court of Maryland , issued a ruling on Friday permitting former Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby to retain her law license while appeals are ongoing for her two federal convictions.

In a concise two-page order released on Friday, July 5, the court rejected a request from the Maryland Attorney Grievance Commission’s bar counsel,

Thomas D. DeGonia, to suspend Mosby’s law license immediately back in February.

DeGonia did not provide immediate comment when contacted late Friday.

Mosby was sentenced in May to one year of home detention following convictions for perjury and mortgage fraud .

Neither Mosby nor her legal representatives responded to requests for comment as of late Friday.

Justice Steven B. Gould issued a dissenting opinion, expressing concerns that allowing Mosby to continue practicing law could erode public confidence in the justice system.
