    Maryland Collected Nearly $15 Million In Marijuana Sales Tax Revenue For First Quarter of 2024

    Maryland collected nearly $14.7 million in recreational cannabis taxes in Q1 2024, a 0.7% increase from the previous quarter.

    The Capital Region, including Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, saw a 76% rise, contributing $6.7 million, while the Central Region, including Baltimore City, saw a 44% drop, collecting $3.7 million.

    Other regions had mixed results: the Eastern Region collected $1.6 million (up 15%), the Western Region $1.1 million (up 29%), and the Southern Region $618,218 (down 40%).

    Cannabis tax revenue is distributed among counties, the state, and various funds, including those for communities affected by past cannabis prohibition, health effects, and small businesses. The state’s general fund received over $5.9 million this quarter.
