Khyree Jackson vigil marred by fatal shooting after NFL star died in Maryland crash

    By Charlie Wilson,

Khyree Jackson's life was remembered on Friday night with hundreds in attendance for a candlelight vigil in his hometown before shots were fired just moments after the ceremony had ended - killing one man.

Jackson was tragically killed in a car crash last weekend, being the passenger in a vehicle hit by another travelling at high speeds in a three-car collision . The driver of another vehicle, Cori Clingman, had attempted to change lanes at high speeds and struck the car Jackson was in. Investigators noted that alcohol could have been a "contributing circumstance in the crash".

A fourth-round NFL Draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings just months ago, Jackson had been a beloved man and teammate to many, as his closest friends and family members got together to celebrate his life. But the evening took a tragic turn as a man was shot dead in the parking lot.

An individual was said to have opened fire at Wise High School, where Jackson had studied and begun his High School football career, with bullets hitting a man in the chest and a woman in the leg. The man tragically passed away being pronounced dead at a local hospital. The shooting happened immediately after the vigil ended.

There had been a strong police presence in the area at the vigil, with the individual who fired the shots believed to have escaped. A gun has been recovered, but Prince George's County Police Department has yet to confirm that any arrests have been made.

Jackson, along with two of his close friends and former Wise High School teammates Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton Jr were killed in the crash. Jackson and Hazel were pronounced dead at the scene due to the wreckage of the crash, with Lytton Jr transported to a nearby hospital where he passed away.

The driver of the vehicle reported to have been driving at high speeds, Clingman, had two passengers in the car during the accident while the third vehicle, a Chevrolet Impala, was occupied by a sole motorist. All passengers from Clingman's and the other vehicle escaped unharmed.

Maryland State Police Crash Team continues to investigate the crash, with no charges yet being made.
