City Council approves agreement for purchase of school building
Wichita City Council members voted unanimously Tuesday to approve an agreement with the Wichita school district to buy a former elementary school building. The city is planning to convert the former Park Elementary School at 1025 North Main into a Multi-Agency Center that will provide temporary shelter and services for the homeless. The city is buying the two-story building for one dollar, which will be payable at closing.

Extra Great Bend Fire Dept. staff available for the 4th of July
Great Bend Fire Chief Brent Smith is thankful for the moisture the area has received but would not mind a little more prior to the 4th of July holiday. The Great Bend Fire Department will have extra staff on hand for the fireworks extravaganza throughout the holiday. Typically staffed with nine firefighters each shift, Smith said there will be 18 firefighters available Thursday to mitigate grassfires and other fireworks-related accidents.

Wayside Waifs, Kansas City's largest no-kill shelter, wants to end abuse towards animals and people with their No More Bullying! program.
