Three community artists are working together to complete a mural in downtown Maryville by Saturday, June 22 during the Summer on Broadway family activity event.

The mural, which will be on the former Exitech building on the corner of West Broadway Avenue and North Cusick Street, was approved by the Maryville Downtown Design Review Board June 10.

According to a release from the Blount Partnership, work was slated to begin Tuesday, June 18.

Will Lunsford, Pinkie Mistry and Chuck Finley are combining their unique artistic styles to highlight the beauty of Blount County from the foothills of the Smokies to its other natural splendor, according to the release.

“Murals in downtown areas are not just decorative elements but are integral to the cultural, social, and economic fabric of life,” Blount Partnership representatives wrote. “They enrich the environment, foster community pride, and contribute to the overall vibrancy and attractiveness of the city.”

Applicants during the June 10 meeting said artists will put a sealant that will last up to two years on the finished mural. The sealant can be reapplied if the mural begins to deteriorate.
