Summertime is in full swing, and just like the summer of ‘69, these could be the best days of your life! Come spend each Thursday evening in August with us at the Blount County Public Library (BCPL)! Our Hot Summer Nights concert series has returned!

Are you tired of doing the same thing every single evening? Mix it up this summer by joining us from 6-7 p.m. in the Main Gallery for free, live, musical performances. Each week brings a unique vibe and sound for you to experience.

We kick off our series with a family concert on Aug. 1, packed with interactive songs and stories led by none other than Eric Litwin, the best-selling author of the original four Pete the Cat books, who reminds us “If you want to be cool, just be you!”. If you happen to miss Eric’s performance with us, be sure to catch him at Knox County Public Library at their Burlington Branch on Aug. 2 (be sure to register at knoxcountylibrary.org) or on Aug. 3 at Oak Ridge Public Library (be sure to register at orpl.oakridgetn.gov).

For a “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” swing on by Aug. 8 where Club Rewind, the ultimate ‘80s tribute band, will be giving a tubular performance. Enjoy a radical night where if you “Wanna Dance with Somebody” it’s totally fine. “Every Breath You Take” will be infused with outrageous nostalgia. It’ll be “Nothing but a Good Time.”

Our next concert will feature The Warman Trio, a talented family band that blends 1950s and ‘60s Rock-n-Roll and Country with lively rhythms that’ll get you out of your seat and dancing all night. Come experience this high-energy rockabilly extravaganza on Aug. 15.

Didn’t get the chance to travel like you dreamed this summer? No problem! Join us on Aug. 22 for a musical journey through beautiful Japan. Shamisen Knoxville will captivate you with sounds that transport you from the subtropical Okinawa to the cool northern island of Hokkaido. The audience will also get the chance to participate by chanting along or playing mini cardboard shamisens! Shamisen Knoxville will quickly have you saying “Domo arigato,” (Thank you very much) for sharing in this moving music.

Returning by popular demand and bringing our concert series to a close will be Roux du Bayou. If you missed them last year, don’t miss out this time. Roux du Bayou has a unique sound that delivers authentic Cajun, Mardi Gras, Zydeco, and Swamp Pop musical flavors. You’ll be mentally dancing down the streets of New Orleans in no time! Join us on Aug. 29 for this entertaining show.

Thanks to the support of our Friends of the Library, there’s always something fun to do at the Blount County Public Library. We hope to see you every Thursday in August for our Hot Summer Nights performances.
