MASON COUNTY (WWJ) — A young bald eagle that was wounded by a car is expected to recover, thanks to the help of sheriff’s deputies in Northern Michigan.

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday shared video of the rescue as two deputies and a Michigan DNR conservation officer tended to the bird on the side of a road.

K9 deputy Baum, a retired sergeant major in the United States Marine Corps, used a blanket to cover the bird until the DNR officer arrived.

The sheriff’s office noted Baum used “an American icon blanket, Harley Davidson, for another American Icon of freedom, the Bald Eagle.”

The DNR conservation took the eagle to a rehabilitation facility, where he is expected to recover.

Authorities didn’t say exactly when or where the rescue took place.
