Pleiness to be inducted into CMU Athletic Hall of Fame
Former Mason County Central star Chad Pleiness was recently recognized for his athletic accomplishments at the collegiate level. It was announced that Pleiness would be inducted into the Central Michigan University Athletic Hall of Fame last week. Pleiness joins the class of 2024 with six inductees, including former NFL No. 1 overall draft pick Eric Fisher.

Sheriff’s Reserve Unit looking for more volunteers
LUDINGTON —The Mason County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Unit is a group of individuals who volunteer to serve their community alongside local law enforcement. According to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office website the MCSO Reserve Unit began in 1954 under Sheriff Ed Anderson. Originally the group was responsible for the rescue truck that housed vehicle extrication equipment, often known as the Jaws of Life.

A 36-year-old Spring Lake man was arrested Saturday by Mason County Sheriff deputies on a charge of driving while being impaired by alcohol. The man was arrested following a traffic stop at 1:46 a.m. on U.S. 10 near Meyers Road in Pere Marquette Township. He was lodged in the Mason County Jail.
District library offers summer fun for kids, families
The Mason County District Library recently kicked off their Summer Reading Program which runs Monday’s in Ludington at 1 p.m. and Wednesday’s in Scottville at 1 p.m. The theme for the Summer Reading Program is Adventure Begins at Your Library, according to Emiy Garland, Head of Youth Services.
Perseverance gets 1974 Free Soil baseball team into Hall of Fame
Not many people expected the Free Soil baseball team to win much of anything in 1974. “Nobody except the five seniors on the team thought we were going to do anything,” said Matt Knizacky, who played second base on that team. “Not even win the league — nobody thought that.”
Pedestrian struck by vehicle in downtown Ludington
LUDINGTON — A 62-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle on Robert Street south of Ludington Avenue Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred about 1:24 p.m. According to a press release from Ludington Police Department, the woman was transported by Life EMS ambulance to Corewell Health Ludington Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries. The driver of the vehicle, a 62-year-old Bear Lake woman, was uninjured.

2017 Ludington Equestrian team becomes first equestrian team to get into MCSHOF
This year’s class of the Mason County Sports Hall of Fame is historic in that for the first time, an equestrian athlete, team, or coach is being inducted. The first equestrian honorees to get into the Sports Hall of Fame is the 2017 State Champion Ludington Equestrian team. They are being inducted alongside Bob Kapcia, John Kasley, Theresa Shoop, Derek Shoup, and the 1974 Free Soil baseball team.
