Massachusetts awards projects more than $13M in matching funds

Massachusetts recently awarded 14 projects more than $13 million in Fair Share funding for local transportation infrastructure and other needs.

It is matching funds for projects and initiatives eligible for U.S. Department of Transportation federal discretionary grants.

“The revenue from Fair Share funding is reserved for projects that can truly enhance the quality of the transportation and education systems that our communities rely on for a better future,” Matthew J. Gorzkowicz, administration and finance secretary, said. “These award recipients have demonstrated the potential for their transportation projects to make a difference for users and we are proud to play our part.”

The state’s fiscal year 2024 budget made $476.5 million available for transportation. It included line items for bridge construction, preservation, and repair; supplemental aid for municipalities for local roads and bridges; regional transit authority improvements; Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority capital investments and means-tested fares; and operating assistance for ferry service.

Awardees include:

The Lynnway Multimodal Corridor in Lynn received $6.8 million for multimodal and safety enhancements.

The Inland Route in central Massachusetts received $3 million to support track, signal, grade crossing and bridge improvements.

Springfield Area Track Reconfiguration received $1.8 million for preliminary work for track, signal, and infrastructure improvements around Springfield Union Station.
