Massachusetts Congressman Seth Moulton, a friend of President Joe Biden , says the commander in chief “didn’t seem to recognize” him at an event in early June. “I saw him in a small group at Normandy for the 80th anniversary of D-Day. For the first time, he didn’t seem to recognize me,” Moulton writes in an opinion piece published by The Boston Globe on Friday. The Marine-turned-lawmaker has considered the president a political pal since Biden helped him on the campaign trail during his initial House run back in 2014. But recently, Moulton has made clear his belief that Biden should step aside . While the congressman acknowledges Biden’s inability to place him at the D-Day event “can happen as anyone ages,” he writes in the Globe , “As I watched the disastrous debate a few weeks ago, I have to admit that what I saw in Normandy was part of a deeper problem.” Moulton points to polls showing Biden behind Trump in crucial states and notes Biden has not yet shown that he will change his campaign strategy. He adds: “The harsh reality is that all the characteristics that have made Biden an irrepressible force—the energy, the vitality, the sharp, scrappy wit—are flickering.”
