A young man from Massachusetts, juggling two jobs to support his mother with the bills, experienced a life-altering shock when he was catapulted into millionaire status overnight , a twist of fate coming just weeks after a breakup with his girlfriend.

Sandeep "Sunny" Singh, hailing from Cape Cod and only 22 at the time, hit the jackpot in 2012, winning a staggering $30.5million on the Massachusetts Mega Millions lottery . Recalling the moment of discovery, Sunny told journalists, "I dropped the ticket. My mom picked it up. She read it over a few times," clearly overwhelmed by the win.

The ex-Best Buy worker, swamped with work commitments, nearly missed the chance at the immense fortune. He shared that his sister had popped into the AM-PM convenience store in Hyannis to purchase the lucky quick pick Mega Millions ticket on his behalf.

"I had to go to work so I had my sister grab the ticket for me while I was there," he recounted. Sunil, outlining his intentions for the windfall, expressed plans to, "Helping my mom with her mortgage, helping family and donate some money to the community".

Acknowledging the significance of the timing, he added: "My mom needs the help and my family can definitely use it so God helped us out at the right time,"

However, he noted that he has no plans to splurge on romantic gifts as his relationship had ended just weeks prior.

"No, no lucky girlfriend, just broke up with her, Nice. Ha ha. Thank God," he chuckled.

Unlike some instant millionaires who ditch their day jobs on the spot, Sunny plans to hand in a two-week notice at Best Buy and stick it out until the end of the financial quarter at the bank where he's employed.

Sunny had only been dabbling in lottery tickets for about a year before he struck gold. He hadn't even bought a single ticket until he hit the age of 21.

He didn't pick any numbers himself but got his sister to grab him a quick pick ticket. When it came time to claim his prize, Sunny decided to take the cash in one giant lump sum of $23 million dollars.

The shop that sold the golden ticket also got a tidy sum of $50,000 for their part in his fortune.
