A typical summer Sunday changed in moments when President Joe Biden announced his exit from the 2024 race. Everyone has something to say about this historic development. It is the talk of the town in Bethpage. “I would’ve preferred he stayed in, so it would’ve helped other people’s chances,” said Chris Paul, of Massapequa Park. Jennifer Rickenbaugh, of Commack, said, “I think it was the pressure and now the COVID. I think just topped it off.” President Biden’s announcement comes after increasing pressure from several Democrat leaders, following the June 27th presidential debate. News 12 heard mixed reaction about President Biden’s decision from people on Main Street in Farmingdale. Frank Paccione, of West Babylon, said, “It felt like he didn’t have a choice. He got pushed out the door. He should have been counseled much earlier.” Danielle Rakozzi, of Massapequa, said, “I think it’s the best thing. I think it’s the best possible outcome. I still think President Trump is going to win no matter what.” Richard Donnelly, of Massapequa Park, said, “You can make an argument that his first term he did a good job, but it didn’t seem like he was going to have much of a second term.” Another Long Islander said about President Biden, “He’s not capable of running a country especially the best country in the world, the strongest country in the world.” News 12's Carmen Grant gets reaction from the Hempstead community.
