    Authorities investigating Wednesday afternoon fire in Massena

    MASSSENA, N.Y. (WWTI) – Authorities in St. Lawrence County are investigating a fire that happened Wednesday afternoon in Massena.

    The Massena Fire Department confirmed in a press release they are investigation a fire that happened around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at 196 Center Street in the village of Massena.

    Fire crews said they were able to get all the residents out of the apartment building within 10 minutes of responding to the call. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the original apartment and the structure only got minimal damage. Most of that damage was via smoke.

    Fire officials are referring all questions about the fire to law enforcement and won’t comment further at this time.

    The American Red Cross said it’s helping the two adults and four young children between the ages of one and seven.

    The Massena Fire Department was assisted by the Massena Village Police, Massena Rescue, St. Lawrence County Office of Emergency Services, New York State Office of Fire Prevention & Control, and New York State Police.
