Governor Shapiro Makes Big Announcement About Reopening I-95

    2023-06-17

The Governor of Pennsylvania is working around the clock to reopen the road as soon as possible...

Governor Josh Shapiro recently announced he's working closely with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (DOT) to reopen I-95 safely and efficiently as soon as possible. "We are going to show this great city, Commonwealth, and the world our grittiness, toughness, and ingenuity — and get I-95 reopened safely and as quickly as possible. We have a lot do to, and together, we will get this done."

Quick progress is already being made by Josh Shapiro and construction crews to reopen I-95. Crews began work on the interim roadway after the demolition was completed days ahead of schedule, according to a press release. A base of foamed glass aggregate has already been laid on the roadway to serve as the foundation as crews fill in the gap up to the surface level of I-95.

Governor Shapiro and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that a live feed has been set up so that the public can watch the I-95 reconstruction process in real time. "To chart our progress and give everyone a sense of timing, we're launching our 24/7 livestream where you can watch I-95 get rebuilt," said the Governor on Twitter. "Government is working for the good people of Pennsylvania."

It's also worth mentioning Governor Shapiro and Secretary Carroll have been in contact with President Biden, Secretary Buttigieg, and members of the Biden Administration to ensure Pennsylvania has access to all federal resources to reopen I-95 as soon as possible.
