Garfield County Fire Which Sent Smoke And Ash Into Pullman & Moscow At 2,000 Acres
A new large wildfire sent smoke and ash into Moscow and Pullman Monday afternoon. The Lower Granite Fire broke out miles away across the Snake River in Garfield County North of Pomeroy around 11:30 Monday morning. The blaze grew quickly in strong winds which keep the smoke and ash low to the ground and push it all the way to Moscow and Pullman. The blaze has torched about 2,000 acres and did push East into the Snake River Canyon on the Garfield County side. It burned in the canyon across the river from Wawawai Landing and Granite Point in Whitman County. The blaze has been state mobilized which will bring in firefighters from other parts of Washington to fight the flames. Firefighters on the ground from Garfield County and nearby Asotin County fought the fire with assistance from aircraft attacking from the sky. Rain late Monday afternoon helped slow the spread of the fire. Evacuation orders for North Garfield County have been lifted. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Jul. 30—EPHRATA — On Monday, the Grant County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of a 21-year-old man. The newly-formed crime reduction team apprehended Oscar E. Ruiz Ramos, 21, of Quincy, on Saturday while he was driving a pickup suspected of involvement in area fuel thefts and casing local homes, according to the GCSO statement. WA Auditor’s Report Raises Concerns over WSDA Egg Inspections
According to a report from the WA State Auditor, the Washington State Department of Agriculture is lagging badly in its legally-mandated egg inspection program. By law, WSDA must inspect egg production facilities once a year, and visit egg packing facilities every quarter. Production facilities are where the eggs are laid by the chickens and then gathered and transported to packing plants.
