MATTOON, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Firefighters in the city of Mattoon were dispatched to a trailer fire Wednesday morning.

According to a release from Mattoon Fire Chief Jeff Hilligoss, the call came in at 7:30 a.m. for a structure fire at 609 Marion. When firefighters arrived they found a single wide house trailer was partially engulfed in flames.

No one was in the trailer at the time of the fire, and investigators would learn the trailer had no utility services connected.

Firefighters also noted that three neighboring units were at risk of catching fire as well and used two hose lines to both extinguish the initial fire and protect the other units. One of the three exposed units had a resident inside who was checked on and found to be ok.

Chief Hilligoss said crews had the fire under control within ten minutes of arrival and completely extinguished within 30 minutes. Crews remained on scene until 9:12 a.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Chief Hilligoss noted that Charleston Fire Department, Mattoon Police, and Ameren Gas and Electric assisted at the scene.
