The weekend which is the last weekend before the Labor Day holiday weekend (which is next weekend) is a reminder that summer is winding down so we should take advantage of the nice weather while we have it. This past week has been one of low humidity and cool temperatures. We will be slowly losing both of those this weekend but it will still be rather nice. Today is a day of lots of sunshine and high temperatures will reach into the lower 80s in most locations. Humidity levels are reasonable and should remain so today with dew points in the mid to upper 50s. No rain is forecast anywhere and radars are in silent mode.

A hurricane watch has been issued for part of Florida as a strengthening tropical system, soon to become Tropical Storm Debby, approaches the state over the weekend. Tropical Depression Four is forecast to strengthen while moving northward along the Florida Peninsula's Gulf coast this weekend, spreading rain, gusty winds and severe thunderstorms slowly northward. AccuWeather meteorologists warn that not only may the feature become a hurricane, but it may also later stall along the southeastern United States coast next week.

HONOLULU (AP) — Tropical Storm Hone, whose name is Hawaiian for “sweet and soft,” drew near the islands Saturday with breezes that were expected to intensify — and increase the wildfire risk for drier parts of the state even as memories are still fresh from last year’s deadly blazes on Maui. Hone (pronounced hoe-NEH), had top winds of 65 mph (105 kph). A slight increase in strength was forecast during the next two days, but Hone was expected to remain just below hurricane strength at its peak Sunday through Monday, according to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center.  A tropical storm warning was in effect for the Big Island, and a red flag fire warning was issued for the leeward sides of all islands through 6 p.m. on Saturday. The National Weather Service issues the alert when warm temperatures, very low humidity and stronger winds combine to raise fire dangers.  “They gotta take this thing serious,” said Calvin Endo, a Waianae Coast neighborhood board member who lives in Makaha, a leeward Oahu neighborhood prone to wildfires.
