Daily storms, humid with milder temperatures
GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Storms have drenched parts of the region today, and more downpours are ahead. It’s another evening with scattered thunderstorms. The main issue we’ve faced this time around has been torrential rain and localized flooding, making for hazardous travel conditions as we head off into the weekend. Unlike the last couple of nights, storms are likely to persist longer into this evening, potentially as far out as midnight. Isolated leftovers will be possible overnight, with lows remaining mild and muggy in the mid 60s to around 70.

Two more Irmo Little League teams reach Regionals
Add two more Irmo Little League teams who have claimed state championships. On Tuesday, the 9-11 baseball team won its program-record fifth straight title in Greenville. They will advance to the Southeast Region Tournament of Champions in Wilson, N.C. In Florence, the Majors baseball team won its state title and will advance to the regional tournament in Warner Robbins, Ga. They join five other Irmo Little League teams who are playing in Regional tournaments starting Friday.
Furman professor wins research award
Over the past 18 years, our next guest worked with about 50 undergraduates to explore what he describes as one of the most fundamental chemical conundrums: how life emerged from a mixture of organic molecules in a lifeless environment. That research resulted in a patent being awarded, a company being formed, and recently, a 2024 South Carolina Governor’s Award for Excellence in Scientific Research. South Carolina Competes At Transplant Games
The Transplant Games of America were held in Birmingham, Alabama from July 5-10. Team “Donate Life South Carolina” competed with over 50 participants, including Sally Harrison and Pat McColl from Dillon, who took part in the 5K Run/Walk event. The Games featured 20 different events, such as basketball, cycling, cornhole, golf, swimming, volleyball, badminton, bowling, poker, pickleball, trivia, youth Olympiad, ballroom dancing, singing, table tennis, track and field, darts, virtual triathlon, and tennis. Over 3,000 participants and more than 5,000 attendees gathered for the event, with teams from 40 different states and a few international teams competing over the six-day event. Team South Carolina brought home 58 medals (23 Gold, 21 Silver, and 14 Bronze), with participants ranging in age from 8 to 75 years old.
