Anglers alert Game and Parks to large number of dead fish at Nebraska lake
GAGE COUNTY, Neb. (KOLN) - Nebraska Game and Parks is monitoring a southeast Nebraska lake after a large number of fish were found dead this week. Biologists with Game and Parks said they went to Big Indian Recreation Area south of Wymore in Gage County after people fishing reported the fish dead. The biologists said they saw numerous dead fish of all species.

More than 4,000 pounds of liquid eggs recalled from nine states
More than 4,600 pounds of liquid egg products have been pulled from shelves due to "misbranding and undeclared allergens." Michael Foods Inc. has issued a recall on approximately 4,620 pounds of liquid egg products that contained milk, which is a known allergen but was not declared on the product label, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Sunday. Details about liquid egg recall "The problem was discovered during a routine carton inventory evaluation. The establishment notified FSIS when it discovered that a limited amount of Whole Egg with Citric Acid cartons was unaccounted for, and there was a corresponding excess of Breakfast Blend Scrambled Egg carton in inventory," the FSIS stated. "The unaccounted Whole Egg with Citric Acid cartons were inadvertently utilized during a single short Breakfast Blend Scrambled Egg production run. The Breakfast Blend formulation contains an allergen, a dairy ingredient (milk), which is not declared on the Whole Egg with Citric Acid label."
Husker qualifies for South African Olympic Team
A Nebraska Track and Field Athlete has finished as a runner-up at the African Athletic Championships and is now an Olympic qualifier. Mine de Klerk finished second in the shotput with a throw of 17.09 meters and will now head to Paris for the Summer Games. De Klerk started her career at Oregon, where she spent two years (2022-2023) before transferring to Nebraska. While at Oregon, the Ducks won back-to-back Pac-12 Outdoor Team Championships. In her first season at Nebraska, she won the Big Ten Indoor shotput title and qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships, where she finished seventh and was named a first-team all-American. De Klerk also finished third at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships. With a throw of 17.09m, Miné de Klerk gained a runner up place at the African Athletic Championships and is now headed to Paris as an Olympic Qualifier. Aeronautica Militare lands in the state for the first time during trip to California
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The Italian Air Force landed in the state for the first time Monday afternoon. Just east of North Platte, an aircraft formation was spotted at the regional airport and many ventured outside to take photos and videos. After the almost dozen jets landed at North Platte Regional Airport, many were in awe when they saw the Italian flag on the back of the fighters.
New ‘lofty’ names for trio of peregrine falcon chicks at Nebraska Capitol
LINCOLN — The Nebraska State Capitol’s newest generation of peregrine falcon chicks have “lofty” new names: Cirrus, Stratus and Cumulus. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission this week announced the names for the trio of peregrine falcon chicks, two females and one male, that hatched in mid-May 2024. The commission also confirmed the names of the chicks’ father and mother: Jet and Atlas.
