MAXWELTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company has announced a partnership with award-winning author, former NASA engineer, philanthropist, and Coalwood, West Virginia native, Homer Hickam to introduce Oktober Sky Oktoberfest.

The brand-new selection will be available this Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company taproom from 1:00pm to 9:00pm. A traditional German Marzen with a 5.9% ABV and 21.9 IBU, Oktober Sky Oktoberfest will be available at the taproom in six-pack 12-ounce cans, while cans will also be made available at select Go-Mart locations throughout the state.

Described as, “an elegant, Malty German Amber Lager with a clean, rich, toasty and bready Malt flavor,” Oktober Sky Oktoberfest boasts a restrained bitterness which encourages another drink!

The draft will reportedly also be made available statewide, and updates on where consumers can find a pint of their own will be shared at the Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company Facebook page .

Homer Hickam himself is scheduled to make a special appearance at Thursday’s event. Live music is also scheduled as part of the celebration, with Building Rockets – a group of musicians who, “love to push the boundaries of Appalachian Music,” set to perform at 3:30pm. Also, beginning at 7:00pm, West Virginia’s Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys will take the stage.

Food vendors expected to be on hand will include Hawk Knob Appalachian Hard Cider’s Pop-Up Kitchen, Taco Spot Food Truck, and Angelo’s Italian Sausage.

The partnership between Hickam and Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company will grant one West Virginia high school student a scholarship which includes an all-expense paid trip to Huntsville, Alabama’s U.S. Space & Rocket Center’s Space Camp. Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company said of the collaboration,

“Those of you who have had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hickam can easily see his undying love for West Virginia and his determination to assist in a positive future for the youth of his beloved state. When approached several years ago by GVBC to make this partnership, Hickam quickly agreed to the partnership upon understanding that the idea of showcasing the pivotal craft industry of West Virginia that creates local jobs and local commerce was reciprocated by Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company.”
