NEXT Weather Alert for excessive heat on Sunday, Monday
MINNEAPOLIS — Saturday kicks off a hot and steamy first weekend for the Minnesota State Fair, with Sunday and Monday both declared NEXT Weather Alert days.Expect plenty of sunshine on Saturday with highs back into the mid-80s in the Twin Cities. A stray shower is possible late in the evening through early Sunday. Temps will reach close to 90 degrees on Sunday and should break into the low-90s on Monday. An excessive heat warning will be in effect in the metro between 1 p.m. Sunday to 8 p.m. Monday. Heat index values will be between 100-107 degrees during both days in the metro, with nighttime lows only down into the mid-70s.A front could also bring rain chances late Monday into Tuesday.Temps will drop a touch into the mid-80s by mid-week with another round of rain is possible on Thursday.

Hopkins man sentenced to prison for murdering ex-girlfriend
HOPKINS, Minn. — A Twin Cities man has been sentenced to over 20 years in prison for murdering a woman who had a no-contact order against him for domestic abuse.On Friday morning, 39-year-old Matthew Brenneman of Hopkins was sentenced to 286 months in prison — nearly 24 years — for second-degree murder, which he pleaded guilty to last month. He was originally charged with two counts of second-degree murder and later indicted with first-degree murder. He was given credit for a year and a day already served.
