CDC project to address obesity expanded to seven more counties in SC
Five years ago, Clemson Department Public Health Sciences professor Sarah Griffin co-led a team of public health researchers and Clemson Extension Rural Health and Nutrition agents to address obesity in three rural counties in South Carolina. Because the team, known as the Healthy Options Program (HOP) team, was able to assist more than 15,000 people in three counties, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has funded a five-year, $3.8 million effort to expand the program from three to ten counties.

South Carolina awarded $175M for bridges
(The Center Square) — The federal government is sending $175 million in tax money to the South Carolina Department of Transportation for a bridge rehabilitation project. Department leaders say it is “one of the largest federal discretionary grant awards ever received by SCDOT.” The agency will use the money to replace four bridges built in 1968 on Interstate 95 over Lake Marion in Clarendon and Orangeburg counties, a project officials said should, in part, lower maintenance costs. ...
