MAYS LANDING — A South Jersey man who stabbed his mother in 2015 has admitted to killing her in a similar attack earlier this year.

Sean Daly, 53, of Mays Landing pleaded guilty on July 12 to murder of 74-year-old Melba Daly, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

Hamilton Township police officers found the victim dead after responding to a reported assault at her home on March 20, 2024, the prosecutor's office said in a statement.

Daly later confessed to having killed his mother, the statement said.

Daly also stabbed his mother in March 2015, inflicting multiple wounds on her upper body, according to Hamilton Township police.

He was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons offenses.

Daly was sentenced to a four-year term in March 2016 after admitting guilt to aggravated assault.

Under terms of a plea agreement for the current case, Daly is expected to be sentenced to 30 years in state prison without parole, the prosecutor's office said.

Superior Court Judge Joseph Levin scheduled sentencing for Oct. 11 in his Mays Landing courtroom.
