A Mays Landing teen already jailed in a motor vehicle theft is now charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a 15-year-old in May.

Quamir Kirkland, 18, was arrested last month in connection with the theft of a motor vehicle and employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime, court records show.

He is now faces 10 counts including attempted murder in the shooting of a younger teen in May.

Kirkland was served the new charges in the Atlantic County Justice Facility, where he has been since June 5, according to jail records.

Police were called to the 1400 block of Atlantic Avenue just after 11 p.m. May 7, by a ShotSpotter alert, Capt. Kevin Fair said Tuesday.

The teen was shot during a busy shift that saw 10 arrests in 11 hours.

Officers arrived to find a 15-year-old boy with a gunshot wound.

Officer Andrew Xiques treated the victim’s injuries before the teen was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus for a non-life-threatening injury.

Officers got a description of the fleeing vehicle.

Sgt. John Waddell spotted the suspect vehicle within 20 minutes, unoccupied in the 800 block of Maryland Avenue.  It had been reported stolen from Bellmawr, Camden County, Fair said. Evidence of gunfire was found inside.

Kirkland was charged with the theft in June, court records show.

An investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit then led to the new charges filed Monday.

The charges also include three counts of aggravated assault, along with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, endangering the welfare of a child and joyriding.

Kirkland remains jailed awaiting a detention hearing.
