Docs: Man arrested after stalking, threatening to kill ex-girlfriend

McALLEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — A Sullivan City man was arrested after he allegedly stalked, and threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend, documents show.

Silvestre Gonzalez Jr. was arrested on two counts of stalking and one count of driving while intoxicated, Hidalgo County Jail records show.

Around noon on July 6, McAllen police spoke with a man who said his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, identified as Gonzalez, had been stalking his girlfriend for the past several months. The woman’s current boyfriend said her ex left his apartment complex in a grey Nissan.

The man said he was in his friend’s car when he saw Gonzalez arrive and park next to him. The boyfriend left, stating that he did not want to start problems with Gonzalez. Police spoke with the woman over the phone, who said that Gonzalez had been stalking her for several months and “had even threatened to kill her,” the document stated.

The woman Gonzalez would come to her place of employment and cause disturbances in the past.

The boyfriend later informed detectives that Gonzalez sent an electronic message stating he “swears” he will kill his ex-girlfriend, and that “she should watch her back,” according to the affidavit.

While waiting for Gonzalez to leave his apartment complex, the man received a voicemail from Gonzalez asking why he was not answering his phone. The man said that Gonzalez would also send him private screenshots between he and his ex-girlfriend.

Police arrived at the woman’s place of employment to look for Gonzalez, when the woman received a Facebook messenger call from him. Detectives instructed the woman to answer and ask where he was. Police noted that Gonzalez sounded intoxicated, was slurring his words and crying loudly.

He told her that he drove to a liquor store but then became uncooperative and ended the call.

Moments later, the woman’s manager told police that she saw Gonzalez’s vehicle pass the area at a high rate of speed.

Police began searching for Gonzalez’s vehicle, which was located travelling northbound on S. Ware Road. Officers conducted a felony traffic stop on Gonzalez, who came to a full stop at a Stripes convenience store.

Gonzalez was asked to exit the vehicle with his hands up and walk backwards towards the rear of the vehicle before being handcuffed. He was described as having bloodshot eyes and was having difficulty keeping his balance.

Officers noted that his pelvic area was covered in what was believed to be urine. When asked if he urinated himself, Gonzalez smiled and said, “no.”

After conducting a field sobriety test, police determined that Gonzalez was intoxicated “other than alcohol.” Gonzalez provided a breath sample, where both samples resulted in a 0.00 reading. Due to the results not matching the previous observations, police requested a sample of his blood, which was collected and submitted as evidence.

He was booked into the Hidalgo County Jail on July 5, and remains jailed on a $40,000 bond.
