Father, son now in jail following Florence gun theft
FLORENCE, S.C. -- A second suspect in the May 12 burglary and gun theft at Palmetto State Armor is now in custody. Benjamin Lee Mercer Sr., 51, of 130 Lands End Drive, Darlington, was arrested Friday and charged with second-degree burglary, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, grand larceny, criminal conspiracy, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a stolen pistol, according to a release from the Florence County Sheriff's Office.

Stabbing Suspect Arrested on Wednesday
The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest of Kirim Deshown Gaskins (27) of Camden in connection to a stabbing incident that took place on June 19, 2024, at approximately 5:30 am on the 2400 block of Baron Dekalb Road in Camden. The incident was originally reported to KCSO that a 27 year old male was stabbed by an 84 year old female with dementia and that the female fled the scene on foot. The male was taken by ambulance to the hospital, and a search began for the female, which involved KCSO K9 tracking teams and Camden Police Department drones. After the female was located, she told a completely different story. She stated the male attacked her, and she was forced to defend herself with a knife. She was injured and also transported by ambulance to be treated.
